This morning, I woke up early, around 3. There wasn’t a strange noise or a child crying. It was You. You woke me up to make me think about what I’d done. The day before, I’d taken a shortcut. I chose to make a decision to walk into an unhealthy relationship without seeking Your wisdom first. I didn’t pray, and the decision has caused me a lot of confusion. Now, in the early morning, I’m stuck without sleep, wondering what to do.
Because it’s You who’ve woken me, You provide an answer. You remind me of Your situation in the desert when You were tempted by the devil. “Jesus was full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led around by the Spirit in the wilderness. For forty days, Jesus ate nothing and was tempted by the devil.” (Luke 4:1-2 ) You show me that You were tired. You were vulnerable and this was the perfect time to be tempted. The devil offered You a shortcut to the dominion of the world by worshipping him instead of God. He knew that if You accepted his offer, then Your purpose of dying on the cross would mean nothing, and I would be lost and dead in my sins. Eternal life with You would not exist. The Devil wasn’t just working against You in the dessert. He was working against all humanity. However, You, Jesus, didn’t take the shortcut. You kept Your eyes focused on Your heavenly Father, and His perfect plan, which included me and the rest of Your children.
Lord, thank You for showing me, through Your example, that I, too, can overcome this vulnerability. I can’t let Satan tempt me to take shortcuts, because shortcuts are not part of Your plan. Thank You for waking me up to Your truth.
